Job description
We’re looking for a dynamic Senior Clinical Nurse Educator to inspire, guide, and empower our nursing teams across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Design and deliver engaging education programs that elevate clinical excellence.
Assess competencies and promote reflective practice, ensuring safe, effective patient care.

Summary of Key Responsibilities
Lead Education Delivery: Oversee the operational implementation of training programs and maintain a hospital-wide training matrix.
Competency Management: Develop and update clinical competencies, assist with sign-offs, and ensure learning opportunities for nurses and HCAs.
Policy & Compliance: Create and update policies to meet regulatory and best practice standards; ensure mandatory training compliance.
Onboarding & Induction: Design and lead structured onboarding and induction for all clinical staff.
Professional Development: Implement development and retention plans, career advice, and preceptorship programs for nurses.
Clinical Presence: Spend 70% of time in clinical areas providing hands-on education, support, and acting as an expert resource.
Reflective Practice & Quality: Promote reflective practice, facilitate shared learning from incidents, and participate in audits and risk management.
Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with senior nursing leaders, contribute to management strategy, and support recruitment and performance management.
Education Initiatives: Deliver evidence-based training across disciplines, support external events, conferences, and participate in national forums.
Mentorship & Supervision: Provide clinical supervision, assist mentors and preceptors, and conduct teaching assessments.
Patient Education & Safety: Educate patients and carers, uphold dignity, privacy, and maintain a safe environment.

Job requirements
Essential Criteria
Education & Registration:
Diploma/Degree in Nursing
Registered Nurse (NMC)
Evidence of post-registration education and development
Education qualification
Practice Assessor qualification
Orthopaedic or surgical specialist education
Current ALS/EPALS certificate or willingness to obtain within 6 months
Experience:
Significant clinical experience at Band 6 or Band 7 level
Extensive surgical/orthopaedic nursing experience
Experience implementing change and investigating incidents
Skills:
Strong IT skills (Word, Teams, Excel)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to teach and adapt style to audience
Leadership qualities: motivated, self-directed, organized, accountable
Time management and prioritization
Ability to provide clinical supervision and lead policy development
Desirable Criteria
MSc in Education
Independent hospital experience/NHS
Experience managing patient complaints
Ability to inspire confidence, coach, and support staff
